Saints Peter & Paul Episcopal Church in Southeast Portland’s Montavilla neighborhood seeks a partner to lead our small, music-loving congregation and help lead the church into its next chapter. Ours is a community where the potential for creativity and growth is limitless. For the right person, this position is a perfect [very] part-time, low-stress, high-impact, big-joy weekend gig.

We strive to be a neighborhood hub where people gather to be/create/study/model community. We seek a musician to help develop and strengthen the church’s musical output as a means of gathering a wide and diverse community. Because singing sets the soul free.

Must have:

  • Versatile and professional keyboard skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • A love of volunteer choristers at every skill level
  • Ability to lead rehearsals and collaborate volunteers and occasional guest musicians

Ideal skills

  • Choral directing experience
  • Adequate organ skills and desire to improve

Would be nice:

  • Knowledge of liturgical traditions
  • Ties to the Portland music scene

Particulars:

The responsibilities for the Music Director include leading music for Sunday morning worship, occasional Sunday evening gatherings, and regular meetings/rehearsals. This is a salaried position of approximately 5 hours per week. The annual salary range is $10,000-$11,500, depending on education and experience.
