Clinical Pastoral Education/Clinical Pastoral Training (CPE/CPT)

The Academy for Formation and Mission offers Clinical Pastoral Education/Clinical Pastoral Training through a partnership with a variety of clinical sites, certified by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP).

A part-time, non-residential full Unit begins in each October of the calendar year. This part-time unit is designed for those who experience geographic or life-circumstance barriers to full-time training.

Supervised hours of practice in clinical settings are arranged. These clinical sites may include medical facilities, parishes, and social service settings.  We work with any otherwise qualified and accepted applicant to develop an accessible clinical placement.

With the goal of helping trainees more effectively listen, communicate, and attend to the emotional and spiritual needs of people in their care, CPE is conducted through coursework, video conferencing/supervision, and face-to-face retreats. Trainees will be required to document the completion of 300 hours of supervised clinical care, which may include on-call responsibilities as assigned. Individual supervision and group sessions will be required for a total of 100 contact hours. Credit for one full unit of CPE will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

We invite those in the ordination process, those already serving as chaplains, clergy serving in congregations, and others seeking to be better equipped for service in their communities.

Tuition is $575 per CPE unit for students not enrolled in the Academy for Formation and Mission in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, or $275 per CPE unit (additional) for students enrolled in other Academy coursework.

To be considered for admission, please contact the Reverend Kurt Neilson at kbneilson@lhs.org.
