Webinar: Beita Village vs Israeli Settler Colonialism

February 15, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Webinar hosted by the Task Force For Palestinian Human Rights.

The battle for Beita is a microcosm of the broader struggle by Palestinians throughout historic Palestine in which Israel illegally targets Palestinian land and property in order to populate them with Jewish settlers. The story of forcible dispossession for settlements is the same, whether it takes place in Beita, Bethlehem, Sheikh Jarrah, Jaffa or in the Naqab/Negev desert.

Imad Ahmad is a Palestinian-American who has spent extensive time in Beita as his family hails from there. Imad will explain Beita’s long history of anti-settlement resistance and outline the innovative, popular resistance strategy employed to contest Israeli settlement outposts and land theft.
Steve Niva is a professor of Middle East politics at The Evergreen State College and former editor of Middle East Report magazine. He studies Israeli settlement expansion and has lived and worked in the West Bank.  Steve will explain the broader strategy of Israeli colonization in the West Bank, why Beita’s lands are being targeted and how Israel’s new government is composed of far-right settlers who support the annexation of Palestinian land. The information shared will provide an opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge of Settler-Colonialism.
