St. John’s the Baptist Great Easter Vigil
April 3 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
THE GREAT VIGIL OF EASTER (St. John the Baptist) – Saturday, April 3 (8:00 pm)
There are so many reasons to attend the Easter Vigil this year. Besides being the Queen of All Liturgies, that gives meaning to every other service of the year, this year we will welcome our new Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Diana Akiyama, to her first visit to St. John’s, via Zoom. She will preside and preach, as well as bless our new Trompette en Chamade, which will be heard for the first time in worship at the proclamation of the Easter Acclamation.
All congregants are invited to begin the service with all their lights turned off. This year the Rector will light and bless the Easter fire in the font at the Church, and the Deacon will process the Paschal Candle into the church to its place by the pulpit. Everyone at home is encouraged to light their own special candle. The beautiful, ancient chant Exultet will be sung, and then we will watch renderings of famous faith stories from the Bible, as presented on the big and small screen. After the Easter Acclamation, everyone turns on their lights, and joins in the Great Noise of our new trumpets by ringing any kind of bell available. We will renew our baptismal vows, and make a Spiritual Communion, as we usher in the great Feast of the Resurrection.
