Contemplative Mini-Retreat: Seeing God Through Zen Eyes
November 19 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
(In person only; taught by Chris Bell) At first glance, the personal God of the Abrahamic traditions may seem to have little in common with the non-dualistic field of awareness of Zen invites one to experience. Yet both meditation and prayer are rooted in trust that the Mysterious Transcendent One is everywhere accessible. Join us as we explore how Buddhist practices can inform and support Christian ones as we seek a relationship with the True Self, however we might imagine it. Free, but donations are gratefully accepted. No prior meditation experience required.
About the presenter: The Rev’d Chris Bell is a long-time practitioner of Zen and a dharma instructor under the tutelage of Roshi Rachel Mansfield-Howlett. After graduating from Harvard Divinity School, Chris served a Unitarian-Universalist congregation in Santa Rosa, California for 15 years, and currently serves as the chaplain for VistaRiver Hospice in the Portland area. Contemplative Mini-Retreats take place every 3rd Saturday, 9:00 am-noon. Join us for meditation and contemplative prayer as we sit together in community, with time for reflection, learning, and support. Guest teachers help us explore the contemplative path. Mini-Retreats are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
